Description

What You'll Do:

Project Accounting + Job Cost Management

  • Manage all aspects of job cost accounting for assigned projects, including setup, cost tracking, forecasting, and closeout.

  • Partner with Field Operations to ensure budgets, costs, and commitments are coded accurately and reflect real-time project performance.

  • Prepare and review monthly cost reports, projections, and WIP schedules.

  • Support owner billings and change order documentation, ensuring alignment with project progress.

  • Reconcile job costs monthly and identify and resolve discrepancies proactively.

  • Track and process subcontractor pay applications and retainage in coordination with AP and GCPay. 

Financial Reporting + Month-End Close

  • Assist with and help coordinate month-end close activities including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.

  • Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting that supports leadership decision-making.

  • Analyze project-level costs and identify trends that impact overall company financial performance.

  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and reporting requirements.

Process Improvement + Systems

  • Identify opportunities to improve job cost reporting processes and implement workflow enhancements.

  • Standardize financial processes to increase efficiency and accuracy across departments.

  • Leverage tools like Sage100C, GCPay, ACC, and Excel to streamline workflows and improve visibility for leadership.

  • Lead initiatives to improve financial systems, reporting, and internal controls.  

  • Implement tools to streamline workflows and enhance visibility for leadership.  

Team Collaboration + Leadership

  • Maintain strong working relationships with operations, project managers, vendors, and shared services.

  • Mentor and support accounting team members; contribute to a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.

  • Serve as a reliable resource for field and operations teams navigating billing, forecasting, or cost questions.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 3-7 years of accounting experience, ideally with job cost or project-based financials in the construction industry

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, project accounting, and financial reporting

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.)

  • Proficient in accounting software; experience with Sage100C, GCPay, AutoDesk Construction Cloud, and Bluebeam, preferred

  • Understanding of forecasting, WIP reporting, and change management

  • Proactive problem-solving skills, especially around billing or collections

  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication skills; able to translate financial information for non-financial stakeholders
